Back in May when the rhododendrons were in full bloom and the sun was glorious, Helen and Paul celebrated their marriage at Hallsannery. It was the most relaxed, but beautifully thought-through and personal day – I don’t think the Bride (or the Groom!) stopped smiling once!
Here’s what they had to say about their day…
“THANK YOU for the perfect wedding day. The venue was stunning and the grounds looked gorgeous. With the incredible weather on the day, we were so happy that our guests could enjoy being outside in the sun. Such an amazing venue in beautiful Devon.
It was so very special for us to be able to spend our wedding day somewhere that Helen has such fond childhood memories of. The spiral staircase made for some really special moments and great photos, and the Cook’s parlour made for a great space for our bar.
Special thanks to Hannah for being so accommodating to our crazy wedding ideas and for her advice and suggestions!”
Well, we didn’t think their ideas were crazy but as you can see they certainly made for some stunning photos. Congratulations Helen and Paul on an amazing day.

Last time we added a few bedroom shots, this time it’s the turn of the downstairs spaces. With 3 reception rooms, including that ever-popular haven for the parents, the Library (full of things to keep little folk entertained), the elegant Dining Room and the farmhouse kitchen there is oodles of space at Hallsannery for all kinds of fun.

‘Hallsannery is absolutely GORGEOUS – the photos on your website don’t do you justice.’

Now, whilst we’d rather have this kind of feedback from incoming guests than the other way round, we thought we’d better try to remedy the situation. With the help of the ever-so-friendly Jon from Indigo Perspectives, we have taken some more shots of the rooms to help show the house off. We’ll be posting more as time goes on but here are a few of the bedrooms to whet your appetite…

If you’re coming to Hallsannery House and need extra beds, the Coach House could be just what you’re looking for. With 2 double bedrooms, 1 double or twin and 1 cosy single, the Coach House provides additional self-contained accommodation for up to 8 guests, right next door to the main house and within very easy proximity of the Hallsannery games room! Better still, we have just given this characterful residence a New England style makeover, making the most of its original beam features and light and airy feel. Whether you’re after a night-before-wedding ‘Groom’s garret’, an ‘overflow’ family bolt-hole or even a golfer’s ‘caddy shack’, the Coach House provides ‘home from home’ accommodation that entirely compliments Hallsannery House.Upstairs double Coach House twin Coach house sitting room Coach House single Coach House kitchen Coach House kitchen 2 Coach House entrance hall Coach House downstairs room

Games room revealed! Posted July 14, 2014

Our brand spanking new (well, a few months old now but still almost sparkling!) games room is ready to be revealed! If you are an ace pool player or a ping pong wizard, you’ll love this under-cover wet weather addition to your holiday, wedding or corporate time at Hallsannery. A great place for teenagers to hang out with friends, for the groom (or bride) to calm pre-wedding nerves and for family to get (perhaps not overly!) competitive with a bat and ball.

Last week we played host to a smashing group of 6th form students and staff from Bideford College for their Leaver’s Ball. The sun shone brightly as they gathered on the terrace for champagne, canapes and photos by Indigo Perspectives, before sitting down to a veritable feast provided by Devon Catering in the elegantly festooned Dining Room. After-dinner speeches and awards were followed by a cocktail and mocktail bar run by the Green Goose Cafe and in-house entertainment from the college DJ! A fantastic night for fantastic young people. We wish them all the very best for their bright futures.Bideford College 6th Form Ball

Gone are the days when a bride and groom arrive at their wedding venue in their for-the-first-time-in-its-life polished car with a couple of ribbons tied on for good measure.

Here at Hallsannery we have been privvy to some beautiful modes of transport used to ferry not only the newly weds but also their guests from the church to the house to celebrate their marriage. Whilst I am definitely no Jeremy Clarkson, even I can appreciate the beauty of a classic MG complete with leather suitcases, a vintage double decker in racing green and a soft top Morris Minor in burgandy and cream. There are many lovely aspects to managing a wedding venue and receiving personal and glowing feedback from our couples is possibly the best! Jenna and Will held their wedding at Hallsannery in April this year and had the most fantastic day… well, weekend! Here’s what they had to say…

‘Just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for such a wonderful weekend at Hallsannery. We truly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue, it was everything we wanted for our wedding, made all the more special by being together the next morning for breakfast! Everyone commented on what a lovely house it was and how nice it was to do the speeches by the stairs.

Thanks again for all that you did to help in making our day perfect.’

With a church wedding ceremony, their Wedding Breakfast in the beautifully adorned Dining Room, speeches by our spiral staircase and music from the fabulous Swing Kings, there was an abundance of happy and gorgeous memories. Thanks, Jenna and Will, for letting us share a few!

When Claire and Richard visited Hallsannery for the first time in January and said they wanted to get married with us in March, I assumed they meant 2015. Three months later, however, in March 2014 they transformed the House into a flower-filled, elegant and extremely beautiful setting for their wedding ceremony and celebrations. With a gorgeous marquee from BBD marques, their ceremony officiated by Ordained Celebrant, Marilyn Purchase, West Country Caterers providing the delicious Wedding Breakfast and the Mama Stones House band rocking the night away, the wedding was gorgeous from start to finish.

Here’s what the Bride and Groom had to say about their day…
‘Hallsannery was the perfect venue for our spring wedding, with the house and connecting marquee meaning that we could be prepared for wind, rain or shine, though in the end the sun came out for us! We planned our wedding in three months and I don’t think we could have done it without Hannah. She provided suggestions and guidance on how to use the house, suppliers and a million other things! We loved having the house for the whole weekend as it mean that we felt really at home by the day of the wedding.’

We wish Claire and Richard all the best for their exciting new life together ‘across the pond’. Come back and visit us in Devon soon!

(With thanks to for the pictures)
