The Sea 4 Life network supports schools in the South West of the UK to improve engagement with coastal and marine areas and use their coastal environment in new and creative ways. The schools are being supported both financially and physically through the Creative Partnerships programme.
This year we are working with Woolacombe, Georgeham and Instow Primary schools.
The project, initiated and managed by Appledore Arts and supported by the North Devon Biosphere Reserve, has given the pupils a unique opportunity to spend time with environmental educators, marine scientists and artists. On field trips run by Pete Jollands from Hallsannery and Mark Ward from the Field Studies Council, Nettlecombe, the pupils will be introduced to their local coastal environments: sand dunes and rocky shore.
The Marine Biology Association from Plymouth, will run a series of marine science workshops where the pupils use microscopes to learn about the life we can’t see, the plankton which lives in our coastal waters.
Artists are involved throughout the project to encourage the pupils to collect images and ideas to create their own art work at school.
