Whatever your age, whatever the weather, there’s something for everyone at Hallsannery

Hallsannery is set in around five acres of private parkland with a sweeping drive, undulating fields and ancient oaks. From fields to woodland, from bamboo to lawns, from rose garden to tennis court, the Estate has space to be both lost… and found. From the moment you arrive, until you pack your party back in the car, Hallsannery is yours to explore and enjoy… so take a deep breath of Devon air, and make yourselves at home.

Anyone for tennis?

Grab a racket from our stack and a bucket of balls and head to Hallsannery’s hard tennis court for a game, set or match. With arguably the best views from a tennis court ever(!) over the river Torridge, Tarka Trail and distant Devon hills, players can practise their drop shots, whilst spectators can support from the sidelines or from the rose garden benches with a cup of tea… or something stronger.

Competitive? Me?

The undercover games room is the ideal place for letting off steam, on fine and not-so-fine, weather days. Housing the ping pong (bats and balls provided) and pool tables, not to mention tennis rackets, cricket sets, buckets and spades, this great ‘under the Coach House’ space has been the scene of many excitable family and friends ‘friendlies’.

Quintessential croquet

The front lawn – with its gorgeous outlook over fields, river and Bideford beyond – is the perfect place for a summer’s day picnic, a snooze in the sun or even a spot of croquet. Pick up a mallet and let the battles commence, or take a comfy seat in the summer house and let others work whilst you watch.

The Front Terrace

With breath-taking views over water and town, there is little need to do anything more here than take a pew and drink it all in. Extra-long benches allow for ‘en masse’ eating and entertaining, or smaller tables and chairs offer possibilities for more select gatherings. Enjoy the endless views during the heat of the day, or gather round the roaring fit pit (unlimited logs provided) and watch Bideford sparkle, as the night draws in.

If you go down to the woods today…

…make sure you try out our tree top swing – for extra impetus get dad to give you a push! Den-making and woodland picnicking possibilities abound.

The Secret Garden and East Lawn

Conveniently located right next to the House, the secret garden is perfect for keeping very small people close to the house and entertained. With a baby swing seat, toddler slide and even a mini wheelbarrow and rake, little workers can get down and dirty! And if, by some chance, they tire of their work, set off on an adventure across the east lawn to explore the bamboo maze or find the secret path leading to the tennis court… great entertainment and exercise for little legs.

Off the lead exercising for four legged friends

If you’re bringing your pooch to stay at Hallsannery, be sure to make the most of the ‘off the lead’ three acre enclosed field in front of the house. Whilst we ask that dogs are kept on leads at all times in the grounds, here they can roam free. There’s even a dog bin at the field entrance to pop in the poop.
